AMAZING CAMERA, By ANON, 19 December 2011

This camera takes amazing pictures i loved it!!!! The zoom can take clear pictures from a couple hundred feet away and looks just as good as close up pictures. Also the pet mode option is pretty great because my dog always moves when i try to get a picture and this takes three pictures at once so you get a good shot. I would recommend buying this camera great buy

Great Camera! Great Price!, December 18, 2011 By E. Schell (Ventnor, NJ USA)

This camera fulfills every expectation I had for it: small/compact, light, easy to use, powerful zoom (optical and digital) and macro/close-up functions as well, plus a good range of easily accessible exposure settings. I used it on a trip to London recently, and got outstanding photos of everything from the Christmas lights on Regent Street and family gatherings to gorgeous sunsets and incredible movies shot in a bar where my nephew was engaged in a boxing match. In every one of those examples the results far exceeded my expectations. Plus, the price can’t be beat, either. I had considered one of the new compact changeable lens cameras at twice the price, but can’t imagine having gotten better results than I did with the Coolpix S8200. And it would have been bulkier than the Coolpix.

Obviously, it helps to read the User Manual, which I certainly did. Not everything is intuitive, and I haven’t mastered it all yet (for example, I found out the hard way that “no flash” is overridden when you choose the “backlight” setting: intuitive for most, but not at that moment for me. Oh, well…).

Being so satisfied with what I have been able to do with this camera, I’m sure it will only get better (for use of the “soft focus” and other special effects, for instance). Tried the “continuous” stills mode for the fight, with good results, but haven’t tried the panorama function yet. Didn’t feel I needed to. The only people who might not like this camera are those who want to fiddle with their own f-stops, etc. to override the auto settings and do everything manually, or those who truly want just point-and-shoot and nothing else. But if you’re the latter, you probably wouldn’t be looking at this camera anyway (actually, your smartphone should handle all those kinds of photos). And even for those folks, you don’t HAVE to do anything to get great results. The AUTO setting makes this an excellent point-and-shoot that fits in your jacket or pants pocket if that’s all you want, and you just might find yourself gradually getting more adventurous in spite of yourself….

Very pleased so far, December 17, 2011 By P. Scott

I picked up and tested many cameras before I chose the Nikon S8200. I must admit that I am partial to the Nikon brand – my wife has a D3100 DSLR and my three daughters each have a Coolpix camera. And they’ve had no troubles. I am replacing a dual-lens Kodak V610 which has always been poor in low-light conditions.

Here is what I like about the Coopix S8200:
1. the zoom capabilities are really good for a little camera
2. it has proven thus far to be good in low light situations
3. easily packable, can slip in my side pocket
4. the easy panorama and panorama assist modes are nice for those “big” outdoor landscape shots
5. I can easily control the exposure levels
6. 1080p video recording

The one thing I don’t like – the pop-up flash. I had to train myself to place my left index finger at the center-top of the camera or my finger would prevent the flash from “opening.” And to retract the flash the camera must be turned off. With that said – it took just 1 day of “shooting” to train myself.

I look forward to putting the camera to the test in very low-light conditions.

I like this camera.
